Hotel St. Francis

This is one of those images I should not publish but I just like it. I shot this a while back while I was roaming the streets of Tijuana, Mexico. Just walking around with my Sony RX100iii and taking pictures of interesting things.

What interested me about this was the light and how it played across the building. What was causing it was a building under construction/deconstruction (hard to tell in Latin America at times) about a block away. The morning sun was hitting that and then coming down on the hotel in front of me. It was just a cool pattern that I stopped and took a picture of this.

Editing was straight up. Just a curves adjustment to make it lower key and then local work with dodging and burning. Then a quick white balance in Camera Raw and then done.

Enjoy.

Dawn Over A River Delta

I shot these photos when I was flying down to Fort Myers in Florida. I have no idea what river this is or where I was.

Let me say that editing aerial photos is a pain. You shoot through very thick glass. You are in a plane moving at several hundred miles per hour. So you end up shooting a ton of frames. Which means a lot more time doing curation.

I will eventually get around to doing a few more sets of these. I have some great images. It’s just a matter of working through them and getting them in sequence.

Editing was a preset I use in Lightroom. Once I had the base edit done I went and did gradients to rebalance the image. After that it was into Lightroom to put the curves adjustment in. Then a lot of local work with dodging and burning.

Enjoy.

Nature Squared – Part 2

Here is the second installment of nature squared. This was also shot in Brookside Gardens but on the lake part for lack of better description.

This set is going to be a bit different. The previous set was more landscape based and there are elements of that in this set. This one is more abstract in the way I shot it. The theme is there in that it’s all nature but the it’s not going to be as in your face and obvious.

Just like the previous set some of these were shot in portrait mode and then sized down to fit a square. Others were just cropped down to hide stuff I didn’t want seen or just to fit the theme I was working with.

I did nothing different editing wise. Just my usual workflow so if you want to see look back two days for that post. Like the previous images it was shot on a Sony RX10.

Enjoy.

Architectural Travels – Part One

I rarely have time to do series of images. This is mainly due to the fact that editing takes considerable amount of time. With me having some time off I went ahead and completed a series I have had in mind for some time, all the architectural shots I have taken over the course the last year or so and publish them in cohesive sets.

I broke up all the images into what I consider sets of similar characteristics. This set I am calling details. It’s more about the finer points within the architecture. Some of it is subjective. It is my interpretation of the style and I do not pretend to be an architect by any stretch of the imagination.

For those of you that read regularly and aren’t into pictures of buildings have hope. I will intersperse the series with normal landscape and travel photos I normally do. I am cognizant that this is mostly personal interest to me.

I’m not going into editing details. The series was shot on 5 different cameras. I have used a Canon S100, Sony RX100III, Sony A7R, Nikon D810, and Olympus EM1. The images were shot in Thailand, Panama, and the United States, specifically Chicago. I could have jammed more in but I thought that was enough.

Hope you enjoy.
