Don’t Cross The Streams

It seems I have been obsessed with movie titles or lines for post titles lately. This one came from Ghostbusters. If you have never seen the original or the remake go watch. It will make sense.

This is the Navy Pier from across Lake Michigan. You can see the skywheel that I have previously published images of before. I was all the way down the Chicago River Walk near some marina and I took this image.

With the image being so dark really with a lot of extra stuff I went for a 2.7:1 ratio. I meant to do 2.4:1 but this crop gives it a more panoramic feel to it.

I have been using Aurora 2017 more lately and it does a really good job creating HDR images with only 1 source image. Normally I mask in bits but with this image being black with various coloured lights I left it alone as HDR no masking.

Still wanting a bit more detail I masked in a layer from Intensify CK to bring out a bit more details in the light trails. Once I was happy called it done.

Enjoy.

Bridge Over A River Of Light

This is another image I shot while I was in Washington DC for work. Again, the road below is Rock Creek Parkway and I have no idea what the other bridge is nor the street. My sense of direction is what you call lacking. A friend of mine commented that my new tattoo which is of a compass likely won’t help me much. I have such kind and supporting friends. Not.

This image is a composite of two images. They just happened to be at different exposures so I edited them for one darker than the other then did a blend in Photoshop. Once I got the various pieces of the two photos I wanted it was time to start playing with light. A lot of dodging and burning in the image to get the trees exposed to where I wanted them. Then it was filter time. I used Macphun’s Intensify to mask in more bits I wanted. Once I had that it was time for Nik’s Color Efex to bring the tones to something more natural. After that I ran Nik’s Sharpening filter just as a change of pace. I highly recommend looking at the full resolution image which has Nik’s Sharpening applied to it. I don’t sharpen the image that I post here simply because I decrease the image size and that has its own sharpening applied to it. So to do sharpening after the resize was causing weird sharpening halos. Hence, the full resolution is where the magic happens. I post the smaller one here for most people.

Full resolution.

Enjoy.

Evening Rush Hour

I shot this while I was down in DC for work. I forget the name of the bridge, its one that goes over Rock Creek Parkway and its Connecticut Avenue. It was still rush hour which goes till just a little after 7 PM. So I setup my tripod knowing it was going to be a long exposure and the lights from the cars would give me a cool effect.

I went low key for this image then did a dodge and burn to various parts of it. I ran a couple filters on it using MacPhun’s Intesify FX and masked them in depending on what I wanted. In all a simple edit but a cool photo.

Enjoy!

Rush Hour

I have been working late and was wandering the office before I left for the evening and looked out to this view. At first I tried to do it handheld and then I remember I have my little mini-tripod that I got once in an order so I attached my Sony RX100M3 to it and set the shutter for a 2 second delay and took a few snaps. For the entire setup of 2 minutes I’m rather happy with the image. I normally don’t post images I just took but I think the light trails conveys the sense of the rush hour commute that people go through.

Enjoy.
