Everyone has this idea that Thailand is a natural paradise full of wonder and pristine beaches. Oh, how wrong you are. That would be the TAT or Tourist Association of Thailand making you think that with carefully staged shots and the magic of Photoshop. When you live here you see a lot more of the real Thailand than they ever want you to see. It’s dirty and polluted like you would not believe. So when I took this image, I did take a moment to clean up some random pieces of trash but I left the tyres and other crap in the photo. This is real Thailand, and a real working fishing boat, not the tourist longtails you see lined up on the beach for promotional shots.
If you are curious about the building in the background that has the arch in the middle. That place has been unfinished since I first started coming here like a decade or so ago. They made them rip down the construction crane a few years ago because it has become unstable due to high winds and salt air corroding it.
