Dusk On The Water

This was shot off a pier at the National Harbor. This is one of the water taxis (rather evident) that ply the water between Old Town Alexandria across the river in Virginia. The bring people back and forth between the Maryland and VA side and on days the Washington Nationals play they also take passengers to the DC side close to the stadium (so I have been told).  I shot this one after if finished dropping passengers off at the Gaylord hotel and just waited till the boat passed by and fired the shot.

There is a bit of motion blur in this image. Not a whole lot I can do about it because my shutter speed wasn’t fast enough to freeze the image but you get the point. Plus its a boat! It should be in motion.

Editing wise I may have went with the assumption it’s my world and I’ll make it look the way I want. I could have kept it “normal” which is great but I felt the image needed some drama. So I started stacking filters and using layer masks to take the bits I wanted. Some played with saturation, some played with color, some added HDR and other effects. Sometimes an image just goes in the direction it does and you flow with it. This time I did.

Full resolution.

Enjoy.

  1. I love the photo and kept a copy. I think that is nice that there is a taxi in old town Alexandria that goes to Baltimore Harbor. Both places are fun to visit. Great shopping and nice restaurants. The colors in the sky and water are not a blur. You have captured them both well. The “taxi” looks fairly large to take many people on the lovely ride crossed the Potomac River. Fun. I have great memories of both. I enjoyed!
