Washed Out On The Gulf

Washed Out On The Gulf

This (I believe) was shot in the Gulf of Mexico while I was in Florida. The distant shoreline is Fort Myers Beach and I was on Sanibel Island. The surf was pretty rough that day as I had set my tripod up in it to get several shots. I just liked how the mangrove (I think) is creeping into the water.

I didn’t put a lot of contrast into this image. I liked the washed out feeling. The most color is the mangrove. The grey sky with the clouds rolling in just seemed to say less color is better. Then you got the seagull diving into the frame and it makes it seem like a dreary scene. Reality was behind the tree was a family and there were people all around me. Sure the sky was slightly grey at the moment it was sky blue in about 5 minutes and I got burnt in the sun.

For inquiring minds, yes its HDR.

Enjoy.

  1. I like your photo. Do not know if it is a mangrove or not but it has decided to grow into the gulf water. Lots of wind to make those waves, bird flying and gray clouds all make a great photo. I enjoyed and it is on the desktop.
