Halloween

I shot these the week before but it seemed appropriate to publish them now. They were all shot on Freemont St. in Las Vegas. Enjoy you Halloween. I will be in Mexico, Tijuana to be exact doing the Desperation Samba and following Jimmy Buffett’s advice.

Las Vegas Blvd

Las Vegas Boulevard. To some The Strip. The more appropriate term, the Boulevard of Broken Dreams. I won’t elaborate on what I have seen here in Vegas but there are too many hopeful on the “big win” to make a difference. There isn’t one. While the photo is just a picture of a paved road, the billions of dollars or whatever currency you use; the amount of money invested in this one are is mind boggling. The only winner of dreams on Las Vegas Blvd is the owner of the corporations that manage the properties.

Freemont Street

Freemont Street in Las Vegas is the old Vegas. The older casinos that existed before the famous Vegas Strip was created. It’s the home of Binion’s Casino which used to hold the World Series of Poker before it became a more mainstream tournament. You can still get the $9.99 buffet that is is gone from the Strip. You can still enjoy a beer for $3. Its for the more budget minded traveler coming to Vegas that want some excitement but don’t want to stay on or off the Strip. Enjoy.

Faux Paris

Everything in Las Vegas is fake. Its the only city you can wander from Paris to Venice in the span of a city block.

Stand Up For Your Rights

These images are nothing special. They are barely edited to prove a point. I am going to relay from my Facebook post what happened when I took them.

If you are a photographer, regardless of your country of origin, stand up for your rights. 90% of the countries don’t care what you shoot. Learn your laws and respect them. Just don’t be intimidated by some individual that views their authority as a way to limit your rights.

So I just had my run-in with security here at the airport. First time in all my years shooting that I have had someone from the airport ask me why I am shooting. When pointing out that I am allowed to because there was no signs prohibiting it he backed down but said he could call law enforcement. Ok. Please call them and I will tell them the same. I have been there and done that before even with Federal Officers.

It pisses me off in this “age of threats”, his words; that taking a simple photograph would be cause of concern. Photographers aren’t criminals. We are allowed by right to take photos in public places unless otherwise posted.

What really annoys me was that there are tons of people using their cell phones for the exact same thing. Their quality is close to the camera I am using. Yet, no one says a word. Start using something that looks like a camera and you become suspicious.

So Reagan Airport you can not expect to see me.

Head in the Clouds

More for the archives and it seems appropriate since I am flying today to Vegas today. Sadly, unlike when I was on my flight to Panama I am not in First Class. Instead I’m back in coach and its almost the same amount of time on the plane. Oh well, I have flown coach for longer stints and can survive this without any problems. I have no idea where I shot these images. My guess off the Central American coast but which country I have no idea. So enjoy the view from the clouds.

Fallen Into the Light

I always carry a camera and as I was trudging out to work this morning and saw the light hitting the leaves I knew I had to take the picture. Still using the Russian Jupiter 8 (I’m lazy) I stopped the lens down and fired off a few shots. I knew I wanted it in black and white because the leaves had no color. Just laying there int the light with the shadows intersecting. Some playing around with the black and white conversion and cranking the details up to the point of no return I’m rather pleased with the image. Enjoy.

Storm Clouds over Panama

I haven’t had time to shoot lately. Part of it is laziness and the rest is weather and my schedule. While I could sneak in some photography the thought of having to fight with the weather or only allocating 10 minutes just doesn’t do it for me. Luckily I always have reserves! Welcome back to Panama! I had a bunch of landscape stuff I didn’t share out because it just didn’t go with what I was doing at the time. So I kept them in reserves for times like these. I doubt I will do a series as I just don’t have it in me to edit 5 or more images in one sitting right now. So it will be single image posts until my schedule levels out and with me traveling to Las Vegas it might be a bit. However, I have a Mexico series I am dying to do that I held back so maybe during the flight, if I can get some editing time in I just may do it. Until then enjoy.
