There is always someone selling you something in Thailand. If you need food you only have to walk a few meters to find a food cart. You need sunglasses, DVDs, souvenirs, watches, pretty much anything you want will eventually be brought before you. The prices start at the absurd and can be easily bargained down to reasonable. If you speak Thai enough to negotiate you can walk away with some deals if you don’t mind that the quality isn’t going to be up to most standards. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. The only time this doesn’t apply is to street food which is fantastic. Just watch the Thais line up for the food carts and you know which ones are good and which ones to avoid. If you can’t speak Thai just point to what you want but most carts only offer one dish so no big deal. You pay 30 to 40 baht for a meal, or $1 to $1.20.
